If you’re phrugal like me and snagged a DJI Phantom 3 Standard at an amazing blowout price, you’ve probably noticed that in populated areas there is a lot of wireless interference that stymies the performance of the drone > controller connection. The DJI Go app will tell you “Strong Interference Detected”, which means you could lose control of the drone at worst, or even simply lose the video feed. That’s where a range extender accessory can save the day.
I was very skeptical that a small piece of plastic with shiny metal shielding veneer could make much of a difference, but it actually does. I read some reviews, and most all of them indicated that this $13 add-on actually did something positive, so I bought one.
While I have not (and do not plan to) test the maximum possible range/distance of the Phantom 3 Standard, I can definitely say that the Skyreat Copper Parabolic Antenna Range Booster massively improves connectivity between the drone and controller in areas where there are many wireless access points (neighborhoods). Prior to using the extender, I got interference warnings every time I used my Phantom 3 anywhere near residential areas. Now, I never get this warning from the app. Problem solved.
Using this thing couldn’t be easier. Simply slide it on the controller’s antenna, copper side facing out. That’s all there is to it. It weighs almost nothing and does not in any way complicate use of the controller.
For $13, this little accessory is a no-brainer. It demonstrably improves drone > controller connectivity. If you have a Phantom 3 Standard, you need one of these in your drone case.
